Video Therapy Course Anxiety # 7

This is the 7th of 8 videos in this therapy course for Anxiety.
In this video we are going to look at restarting some of the activities that you may have stopped as a result of your anxiety.
Avoidance is a very human way of coping with anxiety, it is the ‘run to the back of the cave and hide’ response inherited from our ancestors. However, although it can make us feel a bit better in the short term, over the longer term it robs us of the opportunity to gather evidence that we can cope, which makes symptoms of anxiety worse.
So, any long term approach to overcoming anxiety has to include tackling avoidance. The best way of doing this is a technique called Graded Exposure.
In this video I will take you through a step by step guide on how to do this.
It is important that you approach this challenge at your own pace, giving yourself as much time as you need. And remember, use the relaxation skills that you learned in the last video.

If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help.

** MORE ABOUT ME **
I am the Lead Clinical Psychologist at The British CBT & Counselling Service and find that I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
