I have a few questions, and I am sorry if there are a lot.
1) Would I have to still get a work visa?
If i did I am sure I could get 1 on post, but I was just wondering.
I do not really understand what a visa is because the last time I lived over seas I was around 9yrs old. Is this something that you need just to be in the country, or is it so you can work in the country, or even if you are to just live in the country?
1.5?) I do not know if you know this answer, I will also ask someone once we get there but, every time you are sent to an active duty station you normally stay for 3 yrs. As stated, I do not really know what a visa is, but..With my husband being the person I am living with in Japan & him having a steady income (I keep hearing you have to prove you have x funds in your bank) would this be enough (other then my BA or BS) for me to get a job in Japan? I do not mean other then any skills or what not, but just instead of a work visa etc. Also, we most likely will not need a return ticket because we are under USA laws right?
Would we still need the x funds in the bank if he already has a job for him? Indeed we will have money, but I was wondering if it mattered.
2) Are there any crazy laws that people may break & not know it?
like being arrested for some sort of clothing or anything silly like that?
is there a place online I could read all of the laws? Are there strange laws that do not get enforced?
3) This may seem like a silly question, but do you have to take your shoes off everywhere? By this I mean, for example, I seen hotels that you take your shoes off for, but what about bars & things?
My fiance & I are not drinkers, but I was just wondering.
I would not expect to take shoes off in a shopping mall,
but you never can tell what the rules are with new places.
4) How do Japanese react to non-drinkers? I was told that if you do not drink it is a sort of mark against you. I could drink 1 or 2 but I would not feel right drinking all night with people or something. I normally do not drink at all.
4.5) Does Japan still let people smoke in buildings?
5) The other man in the video said he sold everything before coming here. We are able to have movers back and transport all our things to the new house because we are military, but I was wondering if you, personally, thought it would be a better plan to just sell it all and buy home items in Japan. I was wondering about home furnishing, like love seats, beds, and such. I really want to move into a town that is off the base, and we really do not have much right now because we previously lived in an efficiency apartment, so downsizing is not going to be an issue.
I also was told that is is hard for foreigners to rent, I was wondering how difficult it would be.
6) The 2 air force bases are Yokota & Misawa.
I was wondering if you had ever been around those to areas, and whether they were kind of suburban or more of the rural areas. If you have not, please ignore my question.
