Tonight, we continue Ireland’s Forgotten Odyssey with Part Two of The Voyage of Máel Dúin, an ancient Irish mythology tale of vengeance, prophecy and a journey beyond the limits of the known sea.

Settle in for soft-spoken ASMR storytelling in a gentle Irish accent as Máel Dúin and his companions drift farther from Ireland and deeper into a world of strange, enchanted islands.

In Part Two: Beyond the Known Sea, Máel Dúin finally reaches the island inhabited by his father’s killers, but a mysterious wind prevents him from coming ashore. Carried helplessly into the open ocean, the crew encounters enormous ants, an island filled with birds, a terrifying horse-shaped creature and a green land marked by the hoofprints of impossible animals.

As the men attempt to escape, the sound of a supernatural horse race begins to thunder across the island…

And something starts to appear upon the ridge.

This is Episode Two of a seven-part ASMR storytelling series, following one of the great medieval Irish voyage tales across mysterious seas, supernatural landscapes and forgotten islands.

About the story and sources

The Voyage of Máel Dúin, known in Irish as Immram Maele Dúin, is a medieval Irish voyage tale preserved in several manuscripts and scholarly editions.

This video is an original, expanded ASMR retelling based on the events of the medieval narrative and informed by editions and translations associated with Whitley Stokes and H. P. A. Oskamp.

It is not a direct reading of any modern translation. The dialogue, descriptions, transitions and atmospheric passages have been newly written for this series.
