Construction waste contains small particles that can damage the engine. To save equipment, nerves and money, remove construction debris using a dustpan and broom.

Glass and ceramic shards
Did your favorite cup break and pieces scatter across the floor? Collecting them using household cleaning equipment is a bad idea. Even small glass and ceramic chips stuck in a hose or motor can damage them and/or cut the fabric dust collector.

Collect large glass by hand. Use a brush or broom to remove debris. You can check the quality of cleaning using tape.

Small toys and coins
It would hardly occur to anyone to specifically collect them with a vacuum cleaner. But if you have small children living with you, you should take a look at the floor before cleaning. Once inside the device, they disable the engine, break through the bag, and can themselves break into small pieces.

Earth

Freshly spilled glue and glitter are removed with a damp sponge. For frozen ones, you will need special solvents.
