Stone Meditation

In my favorite dream
I am a stone
Dropped in the water
Sinking smoothly
To the bottom
Where soft silt
Cradles me

My stone self
Is very still
But not asleep
Is silent
But not unthinking
Is alone
But held
By the water
And the sediment
And the smiling knowledge
That time is slow
In the life of a stone
