Come hang out with me for a relaxed, soft-spoken conversation about something I recently learned about - predictive policing and Flock cameras.
Some police departments and even retail businesses are using technology like Flock cameras, while predictive policing uses data to try to anticipate where crime may occur or who may be involved. But what happens when those predictions get it wrong?
I talk about some of the concerns I found especially interesting, including how victims can sometimes become part of the data used in predictions, and how historical patterns of over-policing can potentially create a feedback loop with more reports leading to more police presence, which leads to more reports.
I’m definitely not an expert on any of this. Think of this as two friends having coffee while I tell you about this crazy and fascinating thing I heard about and share some of my thoughts.
I hope you’ll listen with an open mind, and I’d love to hear what you think in the comments. 💙
