A beautiful bob begins with a clear reference point—and an understanding of the woman who will wear it.

For years, this client has made the journey of about thirty minutes to my salon. This visit marked a change in her everyday routine: through the summer, she needed enough length to tie her hair back. With cooler days arriving, she wanted a shorter shape she could enjoy wearing down.

Her request was specific: a bob that met her jawline.

I established the front length first, checking where the hair would sit beside her face. That became my guide as I worked toward the back, connecting the sections into a clean, even outline. In a short haircut, each section contributes to the whole silhouette. The shape comes together through careful observation, a consistent guide, and deliberate work with the scissors.

We also refreshed her gray coverage with a soft dark brown, bringing the cut and color together for a polished finish.

Pro Tip — Previously Colored Hair:
She wondered whether a lighter shade of dye could brighten hair that had already been colored very dark. Lighter dye alone will not reliably lift that existing artificial pigment. A lighter result generally requires a separate color-removal or lightening step, assessed according to the hair’s condition, with additional time and cost. After we discussed those options, she chose the dark brown she felt comfortable wearing today.

These conversations are part of the work, too. My role is to listen, explain what is achievable, and help each client choose a result that fits her hair and her daily life.

There is something meaningful about a familiar client returning with a new wish. Years of trust continue through small decisions: where to set the length, how to connect the line, and which color feels right for this visit.
