How Many Counselling Sessions Will I Need?

n this video I will explain how many counselling sessions you will need. This is obviously not an easy question to answer and the answer will vary depending on you and the problem(s) you are struggling with however, the quick answer is that the average minimum number of counselling sessions a person needs is between 15 and 20.

The longer answer is that the number of counselling sessions or therapy sessions you will need will depend how severe your problem is, how long you have been struggling with the problem and how much work you are able to put in to make changes in between your sessions. The number of counselling sessions you will need will also depend on whether you want to future proof the changes you have made once you have made them, to make sure your symptoms don’t return. Counselling involves 2 stages, the first involves reducing your symptoms, the second involves identifying and protecting you against the factors that have made you develop your symptoms in the first place, this is the future proofing part. Future proofing the changes you make will mean that you will need more sessions but I would always recommend it as it will mean you are far less likely to have to have more counselling in the future.
