Kia ora everyone and happy Matariki! ✨
I just wanted to make a short soft-spoken update about what’s happening with me and where things are going at the moment. In this video I tell you about the Winter festival Matariki (Māori New Year), then we cozy up together with a faux fur blanket, a cuppa and some chocolate (with eating sounds) and have an opportunity to share what’s happening in our lives. I still have a bit of a vocal fry from the cold I had last week so my voice isn’t as clear as it usually is! I just really wanted to film a little something to let you all know how grateful I am for all of your support! 💙

Matariki is the Māori name for the star cluster Pleiades. It rises in mid-Winter (June or July) and signifies the new year. Matariki is an abbreviated term short for Ngā Mata o te Ariki Tāwhirimātea (‘The eyes of the god Tāwhirimātea). It is celebrated in three parts; remembering those who have died, celebrating the present and looking to the future. Iwi (tribes) across Aotearoa celebrate Matariki in different ways and different times.
Disclaimer: I am Pākehā which means I am a non-Māori person and therefore I cannot give a fully accurate perspective or description of Matariki, so please watch the video I have recommended to learn more.
