It is well worth putting that extra effort in at work even if you think no one notices. Lifting up your team by being the person who proves that they have a passion for what they do will go a long way with your boss and your colleagues will pick up on it too!

Recently I have been questioned in my ability to do my job by those who don't have a clue what or how much work I do on a daily basis - even things I do to ultimately decrease everyone's workload. But I've had such positive feedback from the people I work closely with in my team and my boss that what some judgemental person who doesn't know the first thing about my role in the company thinks doesn't matter at all in terms of my career and ambitions within my job.
