This is the 6th video of 8 in this video therapy course for Anxiety.
In this video I am going to teach you one of the most effective relaxation techniques out there. In the next video I am going to help you to reengage with some of the activities that you may have started avoiding due to your anxiety, this will be challenging, so this skill will be invaluable in helping you to face this challenge.
The relaxation I am going to show you in the video is called Progressive Muscular Relaxation. It teaches you to relax by helping you to learn the difference between tension and relaxation. The reason that it is so effective is because it engages both your mind and your body.
It is a simple technique but if practiced regularly it can be endlessly effective in helping you to reduce your anxiety.
Initially practice the technique lying down as this is the easiest position to relax in. As you become more skilled you can practice sitting, standing and eventually walking around. Practice with your eyes open as the goal is to be relaxed but also alert and able to engage in activities.

If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help.

** MORE ABOUT ME **
I am the Lead Clinical Psychologist at The British CBT & Counselling Service and find that I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
