Has an Astronaut Ever Come Close to Floating Off Into Space?
Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, who spent 166 days in space over his illustrious career, described it in his memoir as his greatest concern: "to avoid floating off into space."

Throughout human history, about two hundred spacefarers have left the relatively safe confines of their crafts and ventured into the merciless vacuum outside, an experience that's as frightening as it is awe-inspiring. Apart from the rare moonwalk or testing of a manned maneuvering unit (pictured above) these extravehicular activities, or EVAs, are often laser-focused on making repairs or setting up science experiments. To date, no astronaut has ever been 'lost' to space during one, but there have been a couple close calls.

When outside their spacecraft, astronauts attach themselves to the hull with tethers made of heavy-duty materials like kevlar. These came in handy for Americans Pete Conrad and Joe Kerwin in 1973 when performing an EVA on the Skylab space station. Conrad and Kerwin needed to free a stuck solar panel that failed to deploy after launch. Outside the station, the duo managed to cut a strap that restrained the panel. They then applied some good 'ol fashioned force to the apparatus via a few calculated pushes. When their heaving eventually worked, the panel swiftly sprung into place, flinging the astronauts along with it! Thankfully, their tethers worked exactly as intended, halting the astronauts' perilous course straight into outer space. They ended their EVA no worse for wear, but with some minor whiplash.

Four years later, a cosmonaut had a another near-brush with floating away into space. Commander Yuri Romanenko and engineer Georgi Grechko performed frequent space walks during their three-month mission onboard the Soviet Union's Salyut 6 space station. On one, Grechko had just returned to the open airlock, where Romanenko was waiting, when Romanenko, untethered, decided to lift himself out of the airlock so he could take in the magnificent view. Reports differ, but one account suggests that Romanenko propelled himself a bit too hard and started slowly drifting away from the spacecraft. Luckily, Grechko instinctively grabbed his commander and pulled him back in. According to a less dramatic account, Romanenko was still attached to the station via electrical umbilical cords and, though technically untethered, was likely not in any danger. As David M. Harland, a prolific author and space historian, wrote in his book The Story of Space Station Mir, "Grechko mischievously gave the impression in an interview of narrowly managing to save his commander from drifting away to his death!"

NASA Astronaut Lost in Space for 10 Years | Breaking News Interview .. Welcome to Peppered ASMR Youtube Channel - I am an ASMRtists . ASMR, or autonomous sensory meridian response, is a sensation often triggered by certain auditory and visual stimuli. It's most commonly described as a tingling in the scalp and neck region that can spread through the rest of the body.

I am attempting to build one of the best ASMR Youtube Channels. I have a LONNNNNG way to go. I am learning every day. But as I said in this ASMRtist getting to know me video --- I am loving the ASMR Community. They are so accepting and helpful. Whether you are into ASMR videos for sleep or ASMR videos for relaxation we have a little for all ASMR enthusiasts. ASMR is great for anxiety and stress as ASMR triggers can give some ASMR tingles.

ASMR videos are created to purposefully elicit this response in the viewer, and many people find them deeply relaxing. ASMR videos are designed to create a relaxed and calming ambiance.
