This well known and used statement is a bit misleading. It is easy to think that we can skip a step, the conversation and go straight to 'doing stuff' part. But this is a risky strategy because it opens the door to misinterpretation and misunderstanding.

The only sure fire way to make sure others understand what you mean is to tell them, calmly, clearly and with confidence, believing that you deserve to be heard & to get your needs met.

I prefer:
" Colours fade, temples crumble, empires fall, but wise words endure" - Edward Thorndike.
