Autistic Thanksgiving

Here at Thanksgiving I should be thankful
But it’s loud
There’s a crowd
Someone touched me
I’m anxious
And then there’s those who say my diagnosis is fictitious
Dishes are piled in the sink with wet food
Crusting and soaking I’m not in the mood
I would like to go hide
Rollback like the tide
In reality I’m regulating
Not judging or hating
So please extend grace
When I don’t look in your face
My cheeks hurt from pretending to smile
I really don’t want to have to stay awhile
Thankful happens when I’m cozy and safe
Surrounded by squishmellows, fuzzy blankets and cake
Strawberry shortcake, hello kitty and Pooh
My friends online and my husband it’s true
So happy Thanksgiving let’s go tap and listen
