In this video I will explain what an Eating Disorder is and outline the key questions to ask if you think you or someone you know is suffering from an Eating Disorder. I also explain what an Eating Disorder isn't for example it isn't a diet that has gotten out of control, fussy eating or being greedy.

There are many different symptoms that someone with an Eating Disorder can experience including food restriction, bingeing, purging and excessive exercise. This means that Eating Disorders often vary considerably from one person to the next. People with Eating Disorders can also look physically very different, some can be very underweight, some overweight and some can be a normal weight. However, what determines whether a person's eating behaviours constitute an Eating Disorder is their motivation. Someone with an Eating Disorder will control their eating and weight as a way of coping with uncomfortable emotions triggered by distressing experiences, overwhelming pressure or expectations and Low Self Esteem. The focus on eating, shape and weight will distract them from their problems and give them a sense of control, purpose and achievement in the face of fears of failure and criticism by others or themselves.

If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help.
