I got a relaxing shave in an old school 1970s barbershop in Antigua, Guatemala 🇬🇹 Would you visit Barberia Willy?

Augusto Guarán López is 78 years old and has been cutting hair for over 55 years 💈 He opened Barbería Willy back in 1979 and named it after his son, Willy. Augusto proudly shared that Willy went on to become a doctor.
When Augusto was younger, he worked on a plantation, but the pay wasn’t much. He says he earned more money working in a barbershop so he focused on developing his work as a barber. Looking back, he is very grateful he did well and people liked his work ✨
Augusto also keeps photos close by of his family - five children and seven grandkids❣️ His children became doctors and lawyers, and he’s incredibly proud. He also spoke about his late wife. They were married for 54 years before she passed away 🤍
In his spare time he enjoys working on motorcycles and cars 🏍️
Over the years, he’s seen Antigua change a lot. What used to be surrounded by coffee fields and trees full of mandarins, oranges, and avocados is now condominiums 🍊🥑 Fifty years ago, there wasn’t much tourism here, but now Antigua has become a very touristy city.
One of his regulars is a 98-year-old American expat who describes Guatemala as "a paradise." He says, “I live happily, I have everything I need… It's not too cold.”
Augusto hasn’t been working in the shop alone. His younger brother, Isabel (everyone calls him Chabelo), has been by his side for 52 years. Even after all this time, the two still get along ❤️
