Grandma Jan’s FAMOUS & WORLD’S BEST Green Been Casserole:

Total cook time: 40 minutes 

How much does it cost? Assuming you have the cookware: casserole dish, strainer, large pot, can opener, large spoon and a teaspoon AND salt, pepper and garlic power, all you’d need to purchase is the following (prices are from Walmart).

Average cost (from Walmart) 
6 cans green beans = $3.00
1 can condensed mushroom soup= $0.50
1 container of 16oz sour cream= $1.98
1 3.5oz bag of crispy fried onions= $2.22
1 16oz pack of shedded cheddar cheese= $3.58
Total costs from Walmart using Great Value brands when possible (not including tax) is $11.28!! So worth every penny! 

ALL Ingredients Needed:
- 6 cans cut green beans (NOT French cut, NOT low sodium)
- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 
- 1 16oz container of sour cream 
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 16oz bag sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 bag 3.5oz crispy fried onions
- Salt and pepper to taste

Cookware needed:
- 1 large glass or metal dish - (casserole size)
- 1 large pot
- 1 strainer 
- 1 can opener 
- Large spoon
- Teaspoon 

Start by heating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Open the six cans of green beans and pour them into the large pot. Bring the beans to a boil and continue to boil for 5 minutes. 

Strain the beans to remove all water. Place beans back into the large pot you boiled them in. 

Add in: 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 16oz sour cream, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup. Stir together with your big spoon.  

Pour into the casserole pan with the big spoon. Spread out evenly.

Place UNCOVERED in oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. 

Take out of oven and add a layer of cheese all over the top. I use a full 16oz of shredded cheddar. 

Place back in oven (UNCOVERED), but raise temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Continue to cook for another 15-25 until the cheese is slightly golden brown (but not burnt)… so keep checking it! 

Remove from oven and it’s ready to serve!

Add crispy fried onions to the top.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

This makes 12 side servings. 

It’s easy, fast, cheap and guaranteed to be the best Green Been Casserole you’ve EVER had!

Leftovers taste AWESOME cold or warm, just add foil to the casserole dish, place in the refrigerator and enjoy all the extra! I recommended re-heating one serving in the microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds.
