The Cryogenic Sleep Experiment at Arkham Sanitarium (ASMR)

Once upon a time, you sat in your brown leather Barcalounger in a corner of your quiet, dimly lit room at grand ol' Arkham Sanitarium, contemplating the pros and cons of having recently exchanged the raw power and force of ant mandibles for a more agile and sensitive Mi-Go proboscis. While the surgery was nothing but a success, as all of your past surgeries were whether it was having your eyes replaced with Scrapper lenses or your legs swapped with those of a gerbil, in this particular instance you do quite miss being able to tear right through your food, but instead are now forced to suck up everything you eat through a straw. But it's part for the course knowing that you are on the path to a greater evolutionary existence, or at least that's what everyone at the sanitarium keeps reminding you and that it's just a matter of finding the right pieces to complete your puzzle.

Your third story room in the Human Ward overlooks the rear grounds of the facility, giving you a nice clear view of Margaret's magnificent garden below and all the fruits, vegetables, herbs, limbs, organs, and patients that grow and are buried there. Just as feelings of jealousy begin to grow within you of all those who were ever lucky enough to have been buried in the Queen's garden, that's right about the time when your consciousness was whip-lashed back into reality by a familiar tapping at your door. Tap-taptap-tap-taptaptap, taptap-tap-taptaptap-taptap-tap-tap. At this juncture of your tenure at the sanitarium, you've been able to discern each member of the staff that comes to visit by the way they knock, tap, scratch, thump or scream at your door. This time it was none other than the good ol' professor, and him making a personal visit at this late hour, well past curfew, can only signify something of great importance. What could it be this time, you wondered, as you set your bottle of Nuka Cola-infused herbal tea ever-so-gently down upon the mahogany end table. A table which you recently acquired for $34.08 USD from the Innsmouth Thrift Shop during one of the facility's recent field trips. It's a beautiful piece, despite all the claw marks that adorn the legs and surface. You were then reminded of the field trip to take place next week where you're scheduled to take a rift to LV-426. You're excited for that trip as you'll finally get to visit the xenomorph you "gave birth to" a few months back, which was yet another successful operation.

After pleasantries were exchanged, the professor went into great detail to explain the nature of this experiment, and once he was done providing all of the detail, you were more than happy to oblige in volunteering. Of course, being the Master Obliger that you are, there's nothing more in the entirety of the multiverse that tickles your O.R.S. (Obligery Response System) than participating in experiments that put your very mortal coil at great risk of being permanently sprung. He presented you with the typical paperwork and forms that you needed to sign which clear the professor and the entirety of the facility of all responsibility should the experiment fail, just like all of those forms you used to fill out at the various doctors offices and hospitals back when you lived in what they used to call "civilization". Of course, you did also make sure to sign the reanimation clause so that in the event your corporeal form should arrive at its expiration date much sooner than anticipated, the good professor will see to it that your lifeless corpse is brought back to life.

So here you are, strapped down yet again, and ready to be frozen in time.

What is ASMR?

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills.

ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
