💈 This Luxury Hot Towel Shave Is Waiting for You at House of Barbaard Barbershop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 🇻🇳

Several years ago, we were invited to House of Barbaard in Vietnam, and we finally made it happen 🙌🏼 Our first time in Vietnam - a country we'd been wanting to visit for a long time!

House of Barbaard was opened in 2017 by Guido de Leeuw and Tom Goedhart, childhood friends from the Netherlands.

It all started in a cozy home in Hanoi right by the Temple of Literature where Guido and Tom also lived. Little by little, they transformed it into a barbershop with reception on the ground floor and the barbershop upstairs 💈 As you walked up the stairs, you'd find photos telling the story of House of Barbaard.

During the early days, they offered some of the barbers a place to stay while they got started in the city. So they all lived and worked together.

And from the beginning, Ms. Mai was part of it all. Not only did she cook delicious meals and help take care of the house, she became the house mom❣️ She always made time to listen so everyone could talk with her about what was going on in their life.

The feeling Guido and Tom wanted to create in their shops was a cozy place "where you could sit down, leave your worries outside and forget about time for a while.”✨

Vu Quang Khánh, aka The Wizard, grew up in a lively, working- class neighborhood in Ho Chi Minh City full of local shops and food spots with people always on the go. Prior to getting into hair, he was a magician for 6 years performing at events around the city 🪄

Mr. Khánh's interest in fashion and men’s style eventually led him to the hair industry. Fast forward 10 years, and he has had quite the journey! “From being a magician, to learning women’s hair, then moving into men’s hair, and eventually becoming a barber."

"Looking back, I think every stage brought me to where I am today.”

What he enjoys the most about barbering? The transformation and creativity - seeing people "look in the mirror after a haircut and seeing how a small change can make them feel completely different.” 💇🏻‍♂️🎩 If you're in his chair, he wants you to feel comfortable and relaxed ✨

What's important is the personal connection and not having guests "feel like they’re just coming in for a haircut." Mr. Khánh wants guests "to feel like they’re coming back to their barber, someone who remembers what they like about their style/their usual drink/snack, listens to them, and understands what works for them.”

A special experience comes down to the small things: "good conversation, attention to detail, remembering preferences, and making every guest feel genuinely looked after."
