What if the greatest prison ever constructed was not built from stone or circumstance or the cruelty of other people?

What if the walls were made of something far more intimate and far more difficult to see?

Unexamined certainty. The continuous, invisible act of mistaking a constructed self for the whole of what you are. 🕯️

The ancient Gnostics told a story about a being they called the Demiurge. A false creator who fashioned an entire world from within himself and then looked at everything he had made and declared, I alone am God. There is nothing beyond me.

In this transmission we explore the possibility that this was not only a story about something happening outside human consciousness. It may have been a precise map of something happening inside it. Running quietly in the background of every thought, every certainty, every moment of unexamined identification with the story the mind tells about who it is. 🌀

Neuroscience calls it the default mode network, the brain's narrator, constructing a continuous self-referential story in every available moment of unoccupied attention. Jung called it the persona, the mask worn so consistently that the face beneath it becomes genuinely unfamiliar. Buddhism calls it the monkey mind. The Gnostics called it the Demiurge.

Three traditions. Three centuries. Three completely separate cultural contexts. Each one independently noticed that consciousness in its ordinary conditioned state is running a program it did not consciously install. 👁️

In this soft spoken ASMR transmission we trace all three threads as one continuous story, and then we turn the inquiry inward through a closing practice that may be the most direct encounter with what existed before the Demiurge began his construction.
