In this ASMR video, we explore the old dream of creating the perfect human community and how it translated into architecture and urbanism. Part 1 deals with an overview of city-building since the Antiquity and various experiments from the New and the Old World (especially communities inspired by Fournier, such as Utopia, Ohio; the North American Phalanx in New Jersey; La Réunion in Texas; the Familistère de Guise, Northern France). I also tell you about Robert Owen, the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, the creation of Bagdad, and many more things. Part 2 (available soon) will deal with the 20th and 21st centuries, from the Bauhaus, Le Corbusier or Oscar Niemeyer to the dream of arcologies and the on-going building of planned cities all around the world.
