✨ GRAY HAIR COVERAGE → SOFT & NATURAL BROWN ✨
Today’s client is one of my longtime regulars, and I am always grateful for the trust she has given me over the years.
In Korea, gray hair coloring is not always about making the hair very dark. Many of my clients prefer what we call “fashion gray coverage” — covering visible gray hair while keeping the overall color softer, brighter, and more natural.
Traditional gray coverage can sometimes create a deeper, darker result. With fashion gray coverage, however, the gray blends much more naturally into a warm, soft brown tone, so the regrowth is less visually harsh and the entire hairstyle feels lighter.
Color services in Korea are also highly specialized. There are salons that focus mainly on bleaching, highlights, balayage, and advanced color work. Although I perform various hair services, my main specialty and the area I have focused on most deeply is Korean Magic Straightening and thermal hair work.
Still, for my longtime clients, regular color maintenance is an important part of keeping their hair looking polished and beautiful.
✨ PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION TIP
When covering gray hair, I pay close attention to WHERE the gray is concentrated.
This client has more visible gray hair around the front hairline and front sections, so I begin applying the color there first.
Why?
Gray hair can be resistant to color. Giving the areas with the highest concentration of gray a little more processing time helps achieve more even and reliable coverage.
Interestingly, the application strategy can change when the goal is simply to brighten natural dark hair.
When lifting natural dark hair, I often begin toward the back because the front and top of the head receive more natural scalp heat and can develop faster. Starting those warmer areas too early may cause them to become brighter than the back.
So the application order is not automatic.
✔ Gray coverage → prioritize the areas with the most resistant gray, often the front.
✔ Brightening natural dark hair → cooler back sections may need to be started first.
Hair coloring is not simply about applying the same formula everywhere. Gray percentage, natural depth, scalp temperature, hair condition, and processing speed all influence the final result.
The goal today was simple: cover the visible gray without making her hair look unnecessarily dark, leaving a soft and elegant brown finish.
After many years behind the chair, I still believe that even a familiar client deserves the same careful attention every single visit.
Thank you, as always, for trusting me with your hair. 💙
