Setting Perm Preparation and Medium Bob Haircut for a Woman in Her 60s
A beautiful setting perm begins with careful preparation.
This client has trusted me with her hair for years. She visits for root color and setting perms, and I am grateful each time she returns. Today, I began with the chemical treatment, then shaped her hair into a medium bob.
The chemical process matters just as much for a setting perm as it does for hair straightening. I divided the hair into sections according to its condition and applied the product in two touches. The more delicate ends needed a gentler approach. If they are treated too strongly, the curl can become tight and frizzy instead of soft and graceful.
A bob can begin with a straight horizontal line, an inverted A-line, or a rounded U-shaped line. I can also leave a little more length around the face. Keeping weight gives the cut a stronger bob shape; adding layers makes it softer. If I remove too much weight, that distinct bob shape can disappear.
Even a one-length cut takes great care. With no layers to hide the line, every detail shows. I build that foundation first, then decide how much softness suits the person in my chair.
Pro Tip: For a setting perm, assess the condition of each section before applying the product. A two-touch application lets me treat different areas with care and helps the ends form a softer curl.
After years of familiar visits, her trust still means so much to me. I want her to leave with hair that feels beautiful and comfortable in her everyday life.
