Sensuous ASMR Meditation. Comforting SPD.

The reason for making these types of videos is that I want to bring attention to SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder, see below for full explanation), and use Sensuous (Relating to or involving gratification of the senses) ASMR triggers to help with this sensory sensitivity.

Having SPD involves being sensitive towards certain sounds, sights, smells, textures and so on. For some, it can be very difficult to function properly in our fast paced, loud and oftentimes, insensitive modern world.

Sensuous: Relating to or affecting the senses; sensory.

"The terms sensual and sensuous share the root sens-, which means to arouse the senses. Sensual has referred to gratifying carnal, especially sexual, senses since before 1425. Sensuous is believed to have been created by John Milton in 1641 to mean relating to the senses, instead of the intellect, without the sexual connotation." (vocabulary.com)

Sensory processing disorder / SPD / sensory integration disorder: Relating to a collection of
challenges that occur when the senses fail to respond properly to the outside world.

"You might find that massages, music, aromatherapy, or super spicy food help you feel more alive, grounded, and able to cope with your day-to-day. Our bodies and brains use specialized systems to register all the different sensory information in our environment and piece it together to build a complete picture of: what is going on around us, with our bodies, within our bodies, where we are, and what time of day it is. Sensory processing shapes our experiences in the world and impacts our feelings.

Each of the senses comes together to build your conscious reality. This brain-body process is taking place every second of every day and through the attention, it pays to external and internal information we form our perception of the world, our lived conscious experiences. How we sense,
experience, and feel the world, is critical to safety and helps us move our bodies, complete tasks, make friends, and fall in love. Making sense of sensation is what makes us successful." (sensoryhealth.org)

"The five external senses of vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell—as well as the internal vestibular, interoceptive, and proprioceptive senses—are critical for interacting with the environment. When the sensory receptors in the nervous system malfunction, as they’re theorized to do in SPD, common stimuli like lights, noises, and textures may be perceived as too bright, too loud, or too uncomfortable. Sensory processing issues may also manifest as input-related challenges, resulting in sensory-seeking behaviors compensating for low levels of tactile or proprioceptive input." (psychologytoday.com)

I have been creating these ASMR Meditations in order to calm your senses back down so that you don't feel so overwhelmed with SPD or anxiety. MY hope and intention is that these videos will provide you with some comfort and relaxation and let you know you are not alone. Together, we can find time and space throughout our days to relax the senses and calm our fight or flight responses.
