Her golden hair has been colored for years to cover gray. It looks fine and delicate, but when I touch it, I can feel a strength that the camera cannot show. Beneath that soft appearance, this hair still resists straightening.
That is where my work begins. Before I pick up the flat iron, I look at the condition of each section, feel its elasticity and resistance, and decide how much softening it needs. Hair with a long coloring history deserves care, but treating every section with the same formula would overlook what this particular client’s hair is telling me.

The small decisions may be difficult to see in a short clip: how I judge the hair, adjust my formula, and work toward a smooth result while respecting its condition. For me, beautiful straight hair begins with those decisions.
Pro tip for fellow hairstylists: pay attention to the difference between how hair looks and how it responds in your hands. Record what you feel during softening, the mixing ratios you use, and the results you see afterward. Those notes gradually become a language of your own. If the curl has not softened enough, the flat iron alone cannot do all the work.
