A thoughtful booking from her husband brought her to my salon—and her hair deserved equally thoughtful care.

She shared that her hair had been severely damaged during a treatment two years earlier. For this visit, my focus was to work carefully with the hair in front of me, respecting the difference between new growth and previously treated lengths.

This video follows her hair straightening session: patient preparation, precise sectioning, controlled flat-iron work, and the final reveal of smoother, flowing hair.

My Own Formula Language
Every section tells a different story. I assessed the roots, mid-lengths, and ends separately, using strand tests to guide a three-zone approach.

Over 27 years behind the chair, continued study, observation, and records have helped me develop my own formula language. My numbers describe mixing ratios and treatment intensity—not pH readings.

Within a compatible product system, I adjusted the formulation and processing time to each section’s condition. Previously damaged lengths required particular care, considering pH, reducing strength, elasticity, and how the hair responded during the service.

I refined the ends with a light trim and adjusted heat, pressure, and passes during ironing where needed. The aim was a smooth finish with soft movement, while respecting the hair’s remaining strength.

Assess new growth and previously processed lengths separately. Let strand tests and the hair’s response guide your formulation, timing, and heat work, following the product manufacturer’s instructions.

Previously damaged hair cannot be returned to its original condition by straightening. A smoother appearance should always be approached with realistic expectations and careful judgment.
