Rift World Explained! By The Patient Next Door (ASMR)

You are woken up by the pleasant sound of someone lightly tapping at your door. It's well past curfew here at Arkham Sanitarium, and as far as you know, you are not expecting any guests at this hour. As your unseen visitor stops tapping, much to your dismay as you were just starting to feel the tingles, he quietly opens the door to your room and politely asks for your permission to enter. You are more than happy to oblige him, as you were having trouble falling asleep anyway, and you could sure use the company of someone else other than one of the many doctors that can never seem to stop experimenting on you.

After making your neighbor's acquaintance, it's only then that you realize after all these years you've never actually met him face to face, nor whomever the neighbor is on the other side of your living quarters. But one should suffice for now, as you know how overwhelmed you get when meeting new people or being in a new environment. Too much stimulation and you're liable to retreat into a dark corner of the room for a week.

Once you realize how long your neighbor has been residing here, and that he apparently likes to carry around a brown shoe with him wherever he goes, your inquisitive mind, the same one that got you here in the first place, can't help but to ask the questions you've been wanting answers to for so long. Your new friend seems more than happy to share what he knows about the many peculiar inhabitants and places that exist beyond the walls:

What is ASMR?

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills.

ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
