A cozy, comforting bedtime story to fall asleep to. Accompanied by fire light and the gentle crackling of the flames, I am reading out of a beautiful book called Ozark Tales and Superstitions by Philip W. Steele. This book appeared to me in but a quick glance at the used books section of a family owned bookstore in southern Missouri. At first I hesitated to reach for it - already holding another book with the same title in hand and not wanting to overspend on books for the week - but as they were close to locking up for the day, I decided I couldn't leave it behind. As soon as I opened it, I knew it was a winner. Reading through the whole book, I've found these stories and folktales so gripping and so proficiently written, I wanted to share them with all of you. Reading each story felt like hearing it first hand. That's why I made this a 5 part series, one for each chapter in this priceless piece of Ozark history.
