An hour-long journey. Seven to eight years of trust. And a promise to care just as deeply, every single time.

This client has been coming to me for nearly eight years, traveling about an hour each way. She tells me she keeps returning because her curls stay beautifully defined and hold their shape longer.

That trust means more to me than any compliment.

She often twists her long hair up and ties it back, so she prefers stronger, more resilient curls. I design her digital setting perm with her everyday routine in mind—creating enough definition and spring for the movement she wants when she lets her hair down.

My Own Formula Language

For me, a beautiful digital setting perm begins long before the rods are placed.

Chemical softening is the foundation, just as it is in hair straightening. I carefully assess the roots, mid-lengths, and ends, adjusting the formula and processing to their condition and treatment history.

The underlying principle is shared, but the preparation must suit the hair and the intended result.

From that foundation, we shape the final design: sleek straight hair, a gentle C-curl, a flowing S-curl, or a fuller double-S wave. The shape changes, but thoughtful preparation remains at the heart of the work.

Through 27 years behind the chair, I have continued to observe, test, record, and refine my own formula language. Every client brings a different hair story, and every appointment deserves individual attention.

For long hair that is frequently tied up, discuss how much curl definition you want both when it is down and when it is gathered back. Curl strength, rod size, placement, and the condition of the hair all matter. Stronger curls come from a carefully planned process—not simply a stronger formula.

My wish is always the same: for each client to walk out the door feeling happy, cared for, and comfortable with her hair.

Whether it is her first visit or her eighth year with me, I want her to feel the same patience, sincerity, and attention. Familiarity should never make me less thoughtful.

I keep returning to the intention that brought me into this work: to listen carefully, give my best, and never take someone’s trust for granted.
