How To Cut Down Your Drinking - Part 1

In this video I am going to show you an easy and relatively painless way to reduce the amount that you drink.
I have found this approach to be more successful than giving up alcohol completely.
To start with keep a diary for a minimum of 2 weeks recording each day how many units of alcohol you drink and what time you start drinking. 1 unit of alcohol is :
• A single measure of spirits
• ½ pint of average strength lager (4%)
• 2/3 small (125ml) glass of average strength wine (12%)
• ½ medium (175ml) glass of average strength wine (12%)
• 1/3 large (250ml) glass of average strength wine (12%)
Next, use this information to establish a drinking schedule, each day decide how many units you are going to drink and what time you are going to start drinking and if possible allow yourself 1 alcohol free day. For example:
Day Units Start time
Monday 0 ---------
Tuesday 5 19.30
Wednesday 5 19.30
Thursday 6 19.00
Friday 6 17.30
Saturday 8 17.00
Sunday 5 18.30

When you have been able to stick to your schedule for 2 weeks reduce the units that you drink each day by a maximum of 1 unit and push back the time that you start drinking, by a maximum of 15 minutes.
Repeat this process until your drinking is within healthy limits.
At the end of this video I will share some extra tips to help you succeed. In the next video I am going to show you how to make the changes that you make last.
