Hey guys!
Welcome to our second educational ASMR video! Today, we will discuss the basics of analyzing poems, specifically when you are working to contextualize the poem on a greater scale - considering it within its cultural, historical, and sociopolitical environments, for example. I plan to cover many other topics dealing with English and creative / academic writing, throughout the series, and I hope you enjoy this one! :]
This video:
0:00-3:15 Welcome & brief run-down
3:16-6:12 Reading "Spring and All [by the Road to the Contagious Hospital]" by William Carlos Williams
6:13-14:45 Briefly explaining the Canon, and introducing the next poem / author
14:46- 16:55 Reading "The Weary Blues" by Langston Hughes
16:56-19:39 Background before reading an example analysis essay
19:40-50:16 Reading a strong example analysis essay, comparing and contextualizing the aforementioned poems (self-written)
50:17-55:35 Encouragement about executing such an essay & key tips about succeeding in school
55:36-1:28:29 Discussing actually HOW to execute such an essay successfully, as well as the evolution of the 5 paragraph essay (transitioning from high school to university-level work, and what the differences are). VERY in-depth explanation on how to structure your essay and do a great job!

I hope that this video is relaxing, as well as being educational! I hold my degree in English, with a focus in creative writing, which I attained at an accredited university. I have been lucky enough to be nominated for multiple poetry awards, selected for multiple publications across the country, and been able to speak as a featured poet at a variety of collegiate and regional venues (which, as an Aspie, was terrifying, albeit an honor). The analysis essay spoken in this film is written by my hand, and is my own intellectual property. I strongly discourage plagiarism of any sort, and I am happy to help anyone with their questions, if I can! I'd rather you ask than cheat, and I love teaching! :]
warm listening!
love, elo
