Video Therapy Course for Anxiety #4

This is the 4th of 8 videos in this video therapy course for anxiety.
In this video we are going to start dealing with the thoughts that are causing your anxiety.
We do this by looking first at their accuracy, because we are not neutral objective observers of the world. This means our thoughts are often inaccurate, but if they are going to dictate how we feeling it is important that they at least reflect reality. Secondly, we need to look at how helpful our thoughts are, because sometimes thoughts do reflect reality but their focus isn’t helpful, in the sense that they keeps us stuck, preventing us from moving forward.
I will outline two of the most common thinking mistakes or inaccuracies to look out for, namely muddling up possibility and probability and making the worst-case scenario feel like an inescapable reality. I will also show you the best way to tackling these thinking inaccuracies in order to overcome your anxiety.
Finally, I will remind you about the important of monitoring your anxiety at the end of every day, even if you have given up on this a bit.

If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help.

** MORE ABOUT ME **
I am the Lead Clinical Psychologist at The British CBT & Counselling Service and find that I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
