Video Therapy Course for Anxiety #3

Published 5 years ago

This is the 3rd video of 8 in this video therapy course for Anxiety.
In this video we are going to start the process of making some long lasting changes to your anxiety.
We have previously discussed how it is thoughts that create anxiety, specifically ones that overestimated a disaster combined with ones that underestimate our ability to cope with said disaster. These thoughts switch on our Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) which results in symptoms of anxiety. To stop anxiety we must switch off our SNS, to switch off our SNS we must deal with the thoughts responsible for switching it on in the first place.
The first step in this process is to identify these 2 trains of thoughts. This is easier said than done, in the video I will explain why this is and show you how to tackle the challenge. With practice the process of identifying your anxiety generating thoughts becomes much easier. Once you can do this consistently you can move on the next step in overcoming your anxiety. I will talk you through the next step in video 4 of this course.

If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help.

** MORE ABOUT ME **
I am the Lead Clinical Psychologist at The British CBT & Counselling Service and find that I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
