Hi, Sleepyheads!

In the days since I filmed this video, there’s naturally been a resurgence of interest in (and theorizing about) Will & Jada Pinkett Smith’s relationship—so to anyone just passing through, I want to post a few gentle reminders:

1) NPD abuse is serious and should be treated as such.

2) Part of treating it seriously is to understand that it is impossible to diagnose someone with it from video clips, interviews, etc.

3) In general, we should refrain from speculating about people’s mental health whenever possible.

4) If we are in favor of mad justice and seek to fight mental health stigma, then those same values must extend to personality disorders like NPD—as uncomfortable as that may make us.

5) If ever we sincerely suspect abuse is happening, then weaponized shame cannot and will not help. The best way to help is to provide support and resources to both parties.

To paraphrase my new favorite movie Everything Everywhere All at Once,
