What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety?

In this video I explain what Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety involves. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been shown repeatedly by research to be the most effective type of treatment for Anxiety, more so than medication. This is why in the UK CBT is recommended by the government body NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for Anxiety.

There are four key stages in a good CBT programme for Anxiety:
1. Assessment
2. Symptom Reduction
3. Future Proofing
4. Consolidation and Confidence building

CBT may currently be the most effective treatment for Anxiety but not all CBT programme are created equal so it is important to know what you are looking for so that you can avoid those programmes that will not effective.

This most important thing to look for in a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is that it is individually tailored to your anxiety symptoms, an 'off the shelf' programme is far less likely to be effective especially in the longer term. Also ensure that your therapist is properly trained, is a member of a professional body that regulates their practice and is experienced in treating anxiety.
